Most Anticipated for 2010: Music

2009 wasn’t too bad of a year in general. Lots of cool shit happened, and a bunch of shit happened as well. But in the spirit of looking forward, here are the picks for the most anticipated of 2010 starting with music (and if I don’t get bored, movies and such later).

In no particular order:
Them Crooked Vultures – It has been rumored that one of the most successful supergroups (successful referring to the fact that they didn’t suck, but rocked, not record sales, which if those really matter to you, go hang out at Best Buy, fag), will be releasing a five song E.P. next year. These rumors have been strongly circulating due to the appearance of new songs at shows, and words from Grohl himself who said the group was eager to write a new album. Sounds good to me.

The Dead Weather – They put out on of the darkest, yet most interesting albums this year and according to Allison, the new record is halfway done. Once again, eagerly awaiting.

Nine Inch Nails – Will Trent Reznor put out anything new this upcoming year? Yes, apparently. In a recent statement on the Nine Inch Nails website, Reznor said that after trying to stop from going off and making rad music and instead chillax, he failed. Good for us, though. New Nine Inch Nails material coming out now. Plus, dude’s over 40 and he still goes off when he’s onstage like he’s still 26.

Jubilee – Speaking of NIN, former NIN guitarist Aaron North has said that he will finally be releasing Jubilee’s long awaited debut After the Crash sometime this year. This sucker has been delayed forever since a bunch of people left the band and Aaron has been doing drugs or something. But we are hopeful that Jubilee’s new material will be released this year. If they come to St. Louis, we’ll be there.

Bad Cop – Saw them on New Year’s Eve at the End in Nashville. They went off. They’re moving to New York and putting out a record in 2010. Sorry dudes, but we’re bootlegging the fucker 2 weeks before it comes out when it gets leaked. We’ll buy it when it comes out still, but fuck it, I want my copy earlier than most peasants.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – New album is titled Beat the Devil’s Tattoo. Yes, we’re psyched and yes, we have tickets to their gig in St. Louis next March. We’re so excited for this record that we are willing to forget that weird album (The Effects of 333) that they released a while back. As long as they are back to kicking ass like they did on Baby 81, we’re still huge supporters.

Gorillaz – Apparently, the new album is titled Plastic Beach. It has Snoop Dogg, De La Soul, and Lou motherfucking Reed on it. Buying that and an eighth the day it comes out.

Death Cab for Cutie – They will begin recording this year. Hopefully it’s good.

Autolux – This album has been delayed too damn long. Their debut came out five years ago and the second album has been on hold since 2008. If it isn’t released this year, I’m giving up. Still, eager to hear it this year.

Radiohead – Can’t say I’ve been exactly loving the new stuff that Thom Yorke has been releasing so far this year. However, I’m willing to give these guys a chance with the new album which is hopefully out this year. Haven’t been let down by Radiohead yet.

UNKLE Their last album that wasn’t War Stories was horrible, yet I’m willing to excuse that since it wasn’t a “proper” album according to them. Their next album is going to be “proper”. Since War Stories kicked ass, I’m willing to give them another chance.

Lil Wayne – The dude went off too hard last decade so apparently he’s going to jail this year. His rock album got pushed back again, but we really don’t want to see that. We want to see the Carter IV. As long as it doesn’t suck ass, Weezy, we’re cool.

The White Stripes – While I wasn’t the biggest fan of their last album (the title track and a couple others were good, but it wasn’t a strong record), Jack White has put out 2 good albums since then so we’ll just have to wait and see.

The Black Angels– New album supposed to be out soon. Can’t wait.

Dr. Dre – Detox is supposed to come out this year. He did help Eminem make the shitty Relapse album, but the dude was also in N.W.A. and made the Chronic. We can forgive but not forget dude. Make sure Detox is strong.

So yeah, 2010 should be rad.
