A.A. Bondy does Nashville!

Growing up, it was hard for me to get into acoustic guitar. Between the ages of 5 to 13, all I ever heard was cheesy ballads about some idiot who lost his woman or something that was so sensitive, it was painful. That was until I was around 14 and someone introduced me to Bob Dylan and Elliott Smith did I finally start to see there was more to it. Not every guy who picks an acoustic guitar and gets personal is a sensitive dork, or at least that’s the perspective that my young, dumb mind finally accepted.

With Dylan going electric (but still writing some badass songs) and the unforunate passing of Smith, there seemed to be a void to be filled.  Everyone who tried to fill it failed MISERABLY *cough* Jason Mraz *cough*. Everyone, until I heard A.A. Bondy’s When the Devil’s Loose.

I’ll admit at first I dismissed the album. Then again, listening to any album while studying for an Economics test with an incomptent teacher will make me dismissive of ANYTHING. Anyways, I gave it a second listen when I wasn’t trying to cram stuff I didn’t care about into my brain. I liked it. He definitely had impressive guitar skills and for once in a long time, I felt like I had found someone to fill that void left from Smith. He shows everyone how you should pull off the one-guy-and-a-guitar stint.

That’s why I was excited to hear that Bondy was going to hit Nashville on his current tour. He had a great broadcast on NPR(yeah, I listen to NPR for their music, sue me dorks) from some festival I’m too lazy to look up and a lot of the live clips I’ve seen on youtube make it seem like this dude sounds just as awesome live as he does on record.

He’s playing the Mercy Lounge on August 17th. Tickets are about $10. 18 and up so there’s no excuse for most of you guys to not see it. I’ll be there so if you wanna buy me a drink, hit me up.

In the meantime, check out Bondy’s other tour dates and a couple of live clips. This is not something you want to miss. Don’t buy a dimebag for a day and go see him!
