Bring the Light – Beady Eye

So after a couple of delays, Beady Eye has released their first single. For those who don’t know, Beady Eye is basically Oasis 2.0 minus Noel Gallagher (the one who wrote all the great songs). After Noel gave his old band the finger and went off to do his own thing, Liam and Co. decided to form a new band called Beady Eye. They’ve been writing since Oasis broke up and today, we finally get to see what the four-piece band sounds like now that it’s lost the guy who wrote 90% of their old band’s music.

On first listen, the lyrics send chills down my spine, and not in a good way. “I bring the light, you get to see. You bring the love, it’s ecstacy.” Um, what? Sorry, Liam. Your lyrics on I’m Outta Time were great and all, but maybe there’s a reason your big brother didn’t let you contribute lyrics on more than 3 songs per album. The piano isn’t bad and the back up singers definitely add something more soulful than most Oasis stuff, but it still feels like it’s lacking substance so it feels hollow at points.

The problem is probably Liam. If he spent less time designing scarfs for his shitty fashion label and concentrated soley on the music, I think this would have been a much better effort. That and if he didn’t say that Beady Eye was going to be a million times better than Oasis before releasing this, we might have held this single in a better light (no pun intended).

I’m not writing off Beady Eye just yet, I’ll wait for the album before I say whether or not this is shit or not. But if the album is shit, I give it a rocky tour that undersells, a bunch of drugs and finally a moment of realization before there’s an Oasis reunion. Til then, I guess we’ll have to wait for Noel’s solo album.

On the bright side, at least the single is free:
