Alex Turner Makes the Arctic Monkeys Go Acoustic, Announces Badass Gig at Hollywood Bowl

I haven’t been able to write about something good in quite a bit and since the last two posts have been downers, I feel like I’ve gotta pick up the slack. If you haven’t already, quit blowing it and pick up the Arctic Monkeys latest album Suck It and See. It’s one of the best of the year and is another great example of how these young lads have grown up from all of that “I Bet You Look Good On a Dance Floor” shit.  If it’s too heavy for you (it shouldn’t be, but I guess some people get that vibe), check out frontman Alex Turner’s solo EP from the English dramedy Submarine. Underneath their catchy guitar riffs and energetic drum beats, there’s some great songwriting and truly interesting stuff.

Turner stopped into Toronto radio station 102.1 The Edge a bit ago to play a couple songs without the rest of the Monkeys. He played “Love is a Laserquest” and the title track “Suck It and See” on air. I dig them. I wasn’t a huge fan of “Laserquest” before, but it’s grown on me since then and the acoustic version of the song helps seal the deal. You can check out the videos below. If they’re too soft for ya, check out the single from this album “Don’t Sit Down Cause I’ve Moved Your Chair.” It should flip you on your head in comparison.

Also, if anyone wants to hook me up with plane tickets to California and tickets to this show, I’d love you long time. I’m not even a huge fan of Panda Bear, but I’ll gladly grab a beer and sit through the show to see the Monkeys, TV on the Radio, Warpaint AND the Smith Westerns melt faces.
