Boots Electric Releases “Complexity”

Boots Electric (aka Jesse Hughes) is really picking up the pace when it comes to promoting his solo album. He just released a trailer for his awaited debut, Honkey Kong, and since the album is out in a month and a half, he’s started to let songs leak out. A few days ago, he released “Complexity.”

If you were expecting Eagles of Death Metal take 2 (even after the last single “Boots Electric Theme”), then you might want to change your expectations. Change, but don’t lower. Hughes manages to combine synths (think Gary Numan) with his charismatic delivery (think Little Richard) and even throw in a guitar lick or two to make something that is catchy, danceable and fun. He even manages to throw in a couple of horns, which adds to the eccentric feel of the songs.

Needless to say, this track gives me more hope in the project than the last one Hughes released. I’m ready for the whole fucker to leak now. Sounds like it’s shaping up to be a good soundtrack to a cocaine dance party. Honkey Kong comes out September 20th on Dangerbird Records.
