Mark Lanegan Band Announce First Album in 8 Years

After an 8 year wait, Mark Lanegan is putting all of his other projects aside (and trust me, that’s a lot) and reviving the  moniker Mark Lanegan Band for its first new album in 8 years. Lanegan has announced that he’s going to follow up the band’s last remarkable album, Bubblegum, with Blues Funeral on February 6th, 2012. The end of the world is already looking better.

I’ve already given you numerous reason why Mark rules (if not, just go to the last post). Yet, it’s not just the fact that the man is a lost legend lyrically, but also the fact that for almost every project he does, he collaborates with the best people. This record appears to be no exception. He’s announced two regulars, Josh Homme and Greg Dulli, but promises a few more. Seeing as how he had PJ Harvey, Nick Oliveri and Izzy Stradin on the last one, it’ll be interesting to see who’s on the final roster. I’m stoked. Besides from Queens of the Stone Age, I got my introduction to Mark when I picked up Bubblegum and heard the clanky howler, “Methamphetamine Blues.”

Methamphetamine Blues – Mark Lanegan Band

After I heard that, I was convinced that Mark was either a meth head or probably one of the most badass musicians around. To coincide with the release, Lanegan’s hitting Europe from February to April. I haven’t seen Mark in a band since the Gutter Twins at Lollapalooza 2008, so hopefully he drops in to Nashville this year. Tour dates are listed below along with the usual couple of videos. Check em out and get as stoked as I am.
