“I’ve Been Down (I Could Have Floated)” – Flea

I’ve reiterated this many times before, but the Red Hot Chili Peppers = piece of shit. I could go on, but I’d rather have Neil Hamburger do it for me:

But the other night I was watching the Basketball Diaries, one of my favorites because Dicaprio kills as a poetic junkie. I found myself transfixed on the last song during the credits for some reason. The movie had a killer soundtrack that I mostly recognized but I couldn’t figure out what that song was. I had to pull up iTunes and low and behold, it’s by Flea. Out of all the Chili Peppers, I always thought he was the least jive in the group (though that’s kind of the same thing as being the fastest of the four slowest kids), but apparently, at one point he could write a decent song without some white dude rapping over it. The song is called “I’ve Been Down (I Could Have Floated)” and it’s pretty cool.

While I’m at it, watch the only other thing Flea has done that I’ve liked: his role in the classic movie Son In Law:
