Mark Lanegan Does 4AD Session

I haven’t talked about Marky Mark in a bit, but if you haven’t heard it yet, go pick up his latest, Blues Funeral. After months of giving it replay, I’ve decided it’s definitely one of the top albums of the year. Not that I expected less from a man who was in the Screaming Trees, Queens of the Stone Age, as well as produced a slew of awesome solo records, but considering how different this album is from his usual approach of whiskey-drenched, cigarette-scarred vocals and loud guitars, it’s cool to see him pull off this transition. He’s a versatile dude, even though he’s beginning to look Charles Manson. Shit, wouldn’t dare say that to his face though, considering how he looks like he could fuck you up worse than Manson could. Anyways, he did a session with 4AD and fucking hell Mark, make a stop in Tennessee already.

Lanegan and co. stopped by the studio and delivered live cuts of four songs off the latest album. These include “The Gravedigger’s Song”, “St. Louis Elegy,” “Riot In My House”, and finally “Harborview Hospital.” It would have been better if they included “Quiver Syndrome,” but hey, can’t win them all. The songs still show how the band can jump from spitting fire to melodic calmness. Lanegan never seems to run out of cool stuff to sing and I’d put him up in the same ranks of Nick Cave in lyrical content. Plus, the guitarist looks like Johnny Cash and shreds like a motherfucker. There’s too much cool shit in this video.

Mark Lanegan Band – 4AD Session

The band is making a small run of US tour dates. None of them are nearby me which blows. If you are in the a nearby city however and the above video hasn’t inspired you to check out what they’re made of live, you’re a fucking idiot. But seriously, buy this record, see this band live. Lanegan’s been one of my favorites for a while and I’d kill to see him live. Check out some more of his work below along with the tour dates.
