Kill Rock Stars Release Elliott Smith Rarities for 43rd Birthday

At this point, there’s not much more I can say about the late great Elliott Smith that hasn’t been said before. He was one of the greatest songwriters of our generation and probably the best guy-with-a-guitar act to come along in the past few decades. If his girlfriend hadn’t killed nine years ago (cause I don’t buy that whole “he stabbed himself two times in the chest” deal), he would have been 43 on August 6th. With that in mind, his former indie label, Kill Rock Stars, plans to do some special releases. Along with reissuing his pivotal albums Either/Or and Elliott Smith,  the label has made it clear that they also intend to release a handful of rarities this month as well. The first offering is an alternative version of the Either/Or track “Alameda.”

The track features alternate lyrics from the original release and sounds just as good as the original in my opinion. Considering that Elliott Smith is the king of releasing awesome B-sides (see New Moon for further proof), it should be interesting to see what else is in his cannon. Nice job, Kill Rock Stars. I like this better than when you guys released that bullshit Introduction compilation last year. Anyways, keep your eyes peeled on the label’s bandcamp to see what else is up their sleeves. If you need a further introduction, check out the first track off of his self-titled below along with the last track off of his last album, From a Basement Hill, below. Happy birthday, dude.
