Turbo Fruits “Butter” Release Show This Friday

While I haven’t mentioned them on this fucker for a good bit, unless you’ve been living under a rock, you should have heard about Turbo Fruits already from all the press they’ve been getting lately. If not, this is for you: listen to their shit already. They are gearing up to release their third (and long awaited) LP Butter on Tuesday, but beforehand, they are playing a release show at the Exit/In.

I hadn’t had the chance to listen to the record until it was released on Spotify earlier today. Just finished it a few minutes ago, and I gotta say, it’s a damn solid record.  A lot of the new tracks sound more dynamic regarding the melodies and bass lines and all of the rehashed tracks (“Where the Stars Don’t Shine,” “Colt 45” and “Ain’t the Only One Havin’ Fun”) are more flushed out than the originals. I kinda wish they kept “Colt 45” at the same tempo as the original cause it had more of a snatch-and-run feel that played into the outlaw theme of the song, but I really do like the new version cause you can hear everything much clearer and the chemistry really works for the tempo. “Gamble Tamble” might be one of my favorites, but I’ve been waiting on a studio version of it since they debuted it at the Hard Rock Cafe July 2011 so I’m slightly biased. I could do without “Gotta Get Along” and “She Said Hello”, but they close out with a stellar version of “Ain’t the Only One Havin’ Fun” that’ll make you want to chug a beer and do coke off your girlfriend’s tits. Overall, the album has a nice ride of into the sunset feel and should make the band show up more prominently on the map.

If you want to hear the album, its on Spotify right now. The show is this Friday at the Exit/In.  They’re bringing along local favorites Ranch Ghost, Cy Barkley’s 100th band King Karl and Fox Fun to make a fairly solid line up for the night. They’re gonna have the album for sale there, with one version that’s a pot butter green color. Fuck me, I don’t have a record player still (donations welcome), but I might need to pick up one of those anyways. Tickets are at most $10. Come on out and get stoned to the bone.
