Introducing Promised Land

A couple of new bands have been popping up on the radar as of late and surprisingly, more than a handful of them have been pretty damn good. One of them is a band by the name of the Promised Land. Even if you haven’t heard their music, you know them better than you think you do. The band is consisted of Sean Thompson and Joey Scala (ex-PUJOL and still in Denney and the Jets) doing what they do best (ripping guitar riffs and playing thumping basslines respectively) as well as Scala’s younger brother Evan on drums. I’ve been hearing about this band for about a year and a half now, but even after playing a show or two here or there, no recordings or demos have made it my way. However, those tunes might meet ears sooner than we think. The band has just played Music City Shake Down and debuted a song called “Down on My Knees.”

Down on My Knees – Promised Land

The band doesn’t stray too far from the sound we’ve all come to know them by, but that’s by no means a reason to dismiss them. Having only heard them at shows where the sound is hit or miss, I gotta say that this sounds smoother. They wear their rhythm and blues influences on their sleeves proudly and have created a song that makes you want to nod your head, stomp your feet and order another whiskey. Cheers, guys. Their next show seems to be at 12th and Porter this Sunday supporting Kenny Tudrick. If you’re in the neighborhood, drop in on it. Can’t wait to hear what else these dudes are up to.
