Tame Impala – “Elephant” Music Video

I love this band. They’re one of those psych-pop bands that keep popping up nowadays, but unlike their contemporaries like MGMT, they don’t hit a sophomore slump with their second album. Yeah, I heard it last week, and yes, it is better than their last album (which was also tits). These dudes know how to make tunes and might have just crafted one of the best records of the year. Now, the album doesn’t come out until October 9th, but if you know your way around the internet, you can find it. If you don’t, well, they’ve released another music video to tide you over til the fucker drops. It’s a video for another great track off the record, “Elephant”.

Elephant – Tame Impala

The video is kind of what’s expected: heavily filtered videos that mimic looking through a kaleidoscope or taking way too many drugs. It’s a cool concept that’s getting extremely close to being overused, but what really makes this video is (wait for it…..), the music itself.  “Elephant” is a foot stomper, plain and simple. It’s got the swagger of rock ‘n’ roll but is spliced and diced nicely with the occasional psych organ/synth or bass fill. It’s probably my second favorite track on the album, after “Apocalypse Dreams” that is.

Do yourself a favor and pick up this album when it comes out October 9th. It’ll help make up for the karma you lost when you picked up MGMT’s “Congratulations”. The band is touring the US in November, but they’re skipping over Nashville (big surprise). You can check out the tour dates and a couple other songs below.
