The Sister Ruby Band – “Oh Mercy”

I’m a little late on this one, but if you haven’t picked up on this lately, my life’s been fairly chaotic lately. Like diving into the trenches for cover only to notice there’s a hand grenade waiting for you, shit’s been anything but boring. However, seeing as how this band isn’t as big as it rightfully should be, cut me some slack. You should know the Sister Ruby Band by now. I’ve ranted about their music before since discovering them around this time last year. To reiterate myself, they sound like a mixture of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Jesus and Mary Chain and Lust for Life era Iggy Pop. All the good influences are good and they pull it off perfectly. They’ve been around for a few years now and have released an EP and an LP last year (the latter deservingly made our Best and Worst List of 2011). They seem fairly prolific and to add to that, they recently put out a new single to coincide with their appearance at CMJ earlier last month. The song’s called “Oh Mercy” and they have video to accompany this fucker as well.

Oh Mercy – the Sister Ruby Band

Despite being talented enough to write albums by himself, Johnny Ruby (real name Marlon Rabenreither) recently decided to add a rhythm section to his solo project.  Looks like that was a good move cause the song rules. It’s the perfect soundtrack for watching the night slowly burn away. The video has no specific plot, but its a great visual aid to the music, which is what really matters. No word on when the next album is due, but my humble guess would be sometime next year. Definitely keep an eye out for that one. If you don’t already know them, check out a couple of their tracks below. If you like them, buy them.
