Keith Richards Interview From 1989

Picture 2Not a lot of the stuff I write about in the next few days will be exactly new,  but the beginning of the year is always a good time to play catch up before it starts to pick up steam. If you don’t hold the Rolling Stones on a pedestal as is (and don’t give me that tired excuse that their new albums not adding up to the classics. No shit, sherlock. But they wrote Let It Bleed, so your point is invalid), you’re a moron. Even if you don’t dig your music, they’re walking legends, particularly Brian Jones and Keith Richards. However, while Jones succumbed to his vices, Keith has still managed to keep kicking against the pricks. I can’t recommend his memoir enough (and I know have done it on this thing a bit too much), but if you’re not much of a reader, here’s an interview I’ve come across. Don’t let the fact that its an hour and a half dissuade you from watching it. It’s loaded with great Keith quotes and wisdom from one of rock ‘n’ roll’s great experts. Some people have this stupid notion that he’s a brain dead burn out, but as you can see in the video, he’s smarter and more coherent than a lot of people. And this was after he just quit being a notorious junkie. Let’s see if you can manage to be this well put together after being able to do more heroin than God. Anyways, enough talk. Check out the video. You click through to watch it on youtube, but its worth the minor hassle. You’ll probably learn something valuable. Thanks to Joe Cardamone of the Icarus Line for the heads up.
