Jake Bugg’s Not Half Bad After All

The first time I heard about this youngin was when I saw him open up for Noel Gallagher at the Ryman back in November of last year. Okay, well technically it was the co-headlining show he did with Snow Patrol, but everybody with half a brain cleared out after Noel killed it. Seriously, I think less than half the audience stuck around for the Shit Patrol. Anyways, I was skeptical about Jake Bugg because, well, he’s 18 and had the top-selling #1 record in England. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but let’s face it; nowadays, when a youngin like that is that popular, some corporate-executive-dick-sucking is usually involved (see One Direction). However, this wasn’t the case with Bugg. I went in with low expectations, but I ended up digging a good bit of his set. He’s more of a songwriter than anything. You can check out one that I’ve been kicking around for a bit, “Trouble Town,” as well as I guess his most famous song “Lightening Bolt.”

And as a bonus, here’s an interview where he politely (but publicly) tells One Direction to fuck off. Good man.
