Roky Erickson Returns to Nashville With the Black Angels on February 21st

Roky Erickson is the Godfather. Simple as that. If you’ve ever liked any American psychedelic music, then you owe a great debt to this man. Unfortunately, if you watch the gripping documentary You’re Gonna Miss Me, you’ll know that that debt has yet to be paid. Yeah yeah yeah, he gets some recognition now, but for the amount of influence this crazy motherfucker has had, it’s peanuts compared to what he really deserves. However, if you want to show your respect to the man who has probably given you more than you know, your chance is on February 21st.

Roky Erickson is returning to Nashville via the Mercy Lounge and bringing along the Black Angels with him. In the past, the Black Angels have served as his backing band, but there’s still no word how that’ll play out just yet. All you need to know is that you need to buy your ticket ASAP cause there is no way this’ll suck. Tickets aren’t available just yet as the show and the tour haven’t been officially announced, but when it is, it’ll sell like discounted crack rocks. So buy a ticket and take the fucking trip. If you haven’t heard anything by the 13th Floor Elevators, listen to my favorite by them, Easter Everywhere, posted below. If you want an idea of what the show might be like, check out the video of Roky performing with the Black Angels below.

P.S. – while I’m talking about Erikson, let me just reinforce my disdain for No Country for New Nashville after they wrote this article about last year’s show, in which this douche writer skips over Roky Erikson in order to write about Nude Beach, which he finds more inspiring. Yo New Country, don’t just fire this guy; put him down.
