The Dandy Warhols Are Coming to Nashville

In the almost two decade old friendship/rivalry between the Dandy Warhols and the Brian Jonestown Massacre, it’s not hard to deduce that I pledge allegiance to the Cult of Anton. I mean, c’mon – they have the much better songs, the cooler style, and something that the Dandys lacked for much of their fleeting time on top of the world: balls. Yep, you can deride Anton for being a perceived ego-manic, but at the end of the day, his tunes stand the test of time. Which is not to say that the Dandys didn’t have a song or two. I still throw “Ride” from their debut from time to time, and as much as I hate to admit this publicly (but I’ll do it for the sake of disclosure), I have to admit “Bohemian Like You” is a catchy song. Given, I want to scrub my skin clean off after I listen to it and it usually takes a fifth of whiskey to wash away the shame, but hey, it’s the truth. However, for the three songs of theirs that I consider to be listenable, they still are responsible for trite like this:

We Used to Be Friends – the Dandy Warhols

I guess you can give them some credit though. Between that music video and Dig!, they’ve provided us with a “how-not-to-sell-out” manuel for the next few decades. Poor bastards. They’ll never really live down that film, will they? However, it seems that they still are trying to peddle past irrelevance and play shows. The recent announcement indicates that they will return to Nashville on May 5th at the Mercy Lounge. If you’re into it, get tickets HERE. Can’t say I will, because if I did, I’d probably end up heckling them all night by asking them to play BJM songs. Some habits die hard.

For old time’s sake, here’s the only decent songs I consider to be in the Dandy’s arsenal. It’s mostly shit sandwiches otherwise so proceed from here with caution.
